Carrickmacross Toy Library - Terms & Conditions

All members of Carrickmacross Toy Library are bound by the following terms and conditions:

Joining the Toy Library

  • Anyone living in Carrickmacross or nearby may join the library for a fee and borrow items free of charge; certain larger items from our party rental collection may incur an additional borrowing fee, as detailed on our website. An ‘item’ is any kind of toy or play equipment in the collection.
  • Carrickmacross Toy Library is operated on a not-for-profit basis, and relies upon the fundraising, grant support plus fees paid by its members in order to run the service. The fees are kept as reasonable as possible and are published on our website.
  • Members may join online or in person at the Toy Library, and when joining, they will be asked to provide two personal identification (ID) documents, including one photographic (driving license or passport) plus a second ID showing current address, such as a (recently dated) utility bill.
  • Schools/Educational settings will be asked to provide a secondary contact, for example, contact details for School Administrator.
  • Members will be asked to provide certain details about their children, which will be used to analyse members’ needs and provide information about the service to funders.

Borrowing

  • Standard Members may borrow up to 4 items for a maximum of 3 weeks.
  • Schools/Educational settings may borrow up to 6 items for a maximum of 6 weeks.
  • Only one item (of the total number of items borrowed) may be a large item (identified by the prefix ‘L’ in the item identification code), for example, the Wee’UN.
  • Wooden items must not be used outside under any circumstances, as they are for indoor use only; members will be liable for any damages caused.

Your Membership

  • Members must notify the Library of any change of name, address or other contact details as soon as possible.
  • Members are responsible for any items taken out on their account until a loss is reported.
  • If for any reason members wish to stop using the Library to borrow items, let us know; all toys must be returned before the final loan period has elapsed.

Returns and Renewals

  • Members must renew or return items to the Toy Library by closing time on the date due back (or the earliest prior opening date if that date is a public holiday). If there is a delay in returning items, members should inform us of this as soon as possible.
  • Toys must be returned to a member of Toy Library staff during our opening hours. Members are responsible for toys until they are returned to us and checked in. Any loss or damage to toys left outside of opening hours, i.e. left outside our door, members will be liable for.
  • An item may be renewed online for up to two further periods of three weeks (or six weeks for Schools/Educational settings) unless an item has been reserved by another borrower. Beyond this, the item must be brought back into the Library to be re-issued.
  • Members must agree to ensure all pieces are returned, as returned items with missing parts will not be accepted. We ask that members check toys before they are returned and let us know as soon as possible if there are pieces missing. Members will be granted an additional two weeks beyond the original loan period to bring back a complete item. A fine will be charged at the discretion of the Toy Library beyond that. This is to help with the smooth circulation of toys and to ensure sufficient toy stock levels to keep the Library operational.

Responsibility for Loss or Damage

  • Members are responsible for any loss or damage to items that they have borrowed, and may have to pay the replacement cost of the item or for repair of the item. We understand that children’s toys do occasionally get damaged, and we do not make a charge for minor (cosmetic) damage or ordinary wear and tear. Please report any loss or damage straight away.

Termination of Membership

If members:

  • Have any outstanding charges, or
  • Have items that are overdue, or
  • Have not paid for or replaced a lost or damaged item,

You may not be allowed to borrow further items. The circumstances may also be reported to the manager, who has the authority to cancel the membership of any person habitually keeping items overdue, treating them badly or refusing to pay outstanding charges.

When on Carrickmacross Toy Library premises, members agree to:

  • Observe our Equalities Policy, by not speaking or behaving in a discriminatory or anti-social way towards others.
  • Adequately supervise children you bring to the Toy Library and ensure that no property is damaged.
  • Treat all people in the Toy Library, especially children, with care and respect.

Members also agree that if you do not, in our absolute discretion, your membership or any related privilege may be cancelled without further notice.

Safety

When using items borrowed, members agree to ensure:

  • that only children of an appropriate age play with them;
  • the health and safety of any child playing with them;

Members accept that the Carrickmacross Toy Library cannot be held responsible for anything other than our own negligence, and only in relation to personal injury.

Members agree to inform us if they have any reason to believe that any of our items are or may soon become unsafe in any way.

Data Protection

  • The information provided on this or any forms related to your membership will be processed in accordance with data protection principles as set out in 2018 GDPR regulations.
  • In summary, data will be processed only to ensure that Carrickmacross Toy Library has relevant records of its membership and the items borrowed. The personal information provided will not be used for any other purpose unless legally required. Aggregated statistical data which cannot be traced back to individual members may be used for analysis and reporting.
